Joe Ellenberger’s finding if very difficult to make his UFC debut. For the fourth time, Ellenberger has seen a scheduled opponent fall by the wayside.
Johnny Case was tabbed recently to meet Ellenberger at UFC Fight Night 44 later this month, but officials announced Case will not be competing.
Ellenberger (14-1) has seen Yancy Medeiros be moved to another fight, while Vagner Rocha was injured and unable to meet him earlier this year. He was paired with Frank Trevino for the June 28 card from San Antonio, but Trevino was placed in another fight.
The brother of welterweight Jake Ellenberger, Joe Ellenberger is expected to remain on the lineup, which includes a main event between Jeremy Stephens and Cub Swanson.
UPDATE: Case informed FightLine that he is “good to go.” No word yet on if the change was not meant to be announced or not.
Case provided yet another update, stating on Twitter that a failed eye exam has canceled his appearance against Ellenberger.
“My fight is off due to UFC looking out for my best interest,” he wrote. “I’ll be cleared soon enough. Thank you UFC, Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta for taking care of all my medical bills and looking out for me when I haven’t even fought yet.”
