Nick Newell, who will challenge for the World Series of Fighting lightweight title, was attacked Saturday night.

Newell detailed what happened, and stated on Twitter that he is fine. He is scheduled to face Justin Gaethje for the belt at WSOF 11: Gaethje vs. Newell on July 5 on NBC. It will mark the first WSOF event to air on NBC, as the previous ones were broadcast on NBC Sports Network.

“Some drunk guy walked up to my car while I was backing up & tried to steal my backpack,” Newell said. “I got out & he attacked me. That ended well for him.

“He pushed me in to my car. Fortunately for him I just threw him on the ground. Dudes a jabroni, he’s lucky I’m so nice.”

Newell competes minus the lower part of his left arm. He is 11-0 in his MMA career, with eight victories by way of submission.
