Danny Castillo was extremely emotional after knocking out Charlie Brenneman Saturday night at UFC 172, delivering a picture-perfect right-hand that floored the veteran.

Castillo (17-6) is now 7-3 since joining the UFC from the WEC in 2011. This was his first knockout victory since a 2011 TKO over Shamar Bailey.

“I don’t know what to say,” he said. “I’m really thankful for being in this sport this long. I could never picture this when I first started.”

Castillo credited his coaches, Duane “Bang” Ludwig and Justin Buchholz, with telling him the opening was there to land the right.

“I have an amazing corner,” he said. “They were telling me it was right there. I’m just so happy.”

After a majority decision loss to Edson Barboza last December that earned “Fight of the Night” honors, Castillo was excited to get back in the win column. He is now 3-1 in his last four overall.
