Chris Beal was the first male pick by Ronda Rousey on season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter. Saturday night, he made an impact in his official UFC debut, landing a flying knee to knock Patrick Williams out at UFC 172.

Beal (9-0) lost to eventual TUF champion Chris Holdsworth on the show. He has battled issues outside the Octagon to make his debut.

“This is a blessing,” he said. “Thanks to God. I was in a dark place and he brought me out. Now I’m here.”

Beal saw an opening to land the flying knee, which he did in the second round, when Williams was “ducking down, going for (a takedown).”

“I saw him shoot and I knew I could catch him with a knee,” he added. “That’s what I did.”
