Look for Phil Davis to add Anthony Johnson to a list that includes Alexander Gustafsson, Tim Boetsch and Wagner Prado by the time UFC 172 is complete this evening.

Neil Melanson, the grappling coach at Team Alliance with Davis, believes “Mr. Wonderful” will submit Anthony Johnson tonight’s co-main event.

“Phil is an outstanding grappler and his style of wrestling….he can cling on you, wear you out, break you down,” said Melanson, during a recent interview with MMAMania.com. “He is such a brilliant hand fighter. When he is on certain types of guys, the way he rides, it can be really difficult unless you are used to someone with that level of wrestling on top of you.

“So what we have done is…took that style and linked it in with a few solid submissions, basically chaining submissions and control. I really expect Phil to submit Anthony.”

Davis (12-1) handed Gustafsson his first loss when he locked in an anaconda choke back in 2010. He used a modified kimura on Boetsch and another anaconda choke on Prado in 2012. Johnson has suffered three submission losses in his career – three rear-naked chokes at the hands of Vitor Belfort, Josh Koscheck and Rich Clementi.
