Rashid Magomedov had quite the debut at lightweight Saturday night, scoring a decision victory over Tony Martin at UFC 169.

The win was the ninth in a row for the former M-1 Global welterweight champion.

“I’m really proud of my UFC debut,” he said. “I had no plan for this fight; I just stepped up at the Octagon and tried to put on a good show.”

Magomedov (17-1) has won his last four via decision, including his Octagon debut in New Jersey.

“My opponent was really tough, but I got a really great victory with a good performance,” Magomedov said. “I’m just looking forward to what’s next for me in the UFC.”

A member of the Red Fury Fight Team, Magomedov has won eight fights by knockout. The 29-year-old has not lost since a 2010 split decision defeat to Frodo Khasbulaev.

This was the first time that Magomedov had traveled to the U.S., to which he said, “I like it a lot. Everybody has been really good to me and the people have been friendly.”
