Classic Entertainment & Sports starts off 2014 with an event at Twin River Casino this Friday night, which will feature a bantamweight fight between Andre Soukhamthath and undefeated Kin Moy. Soukhamthath recently became a full-time member of the Blackzillians and is looking for his eighth win in a row. The event is headlined by a middleweight fight between nine-fight CES veteran and Rhode Island fan-favorite Todd Chattelle and Shedrick Goodridge. Both fighters are looking to fight for the vacant CES middleweight title with a win.    Although Goodridge sports a losing record overall (4-6), promoter Jimmy Burchfield says it is his style of fighting that keeps him around in CES.

“We know what he brings to the table and, believe me, if he didn’t show up to fight and didn’t give it 100 percent every single time, we wouldn’t want him back and neither would Twin River or the fans. This is a big fight for Todd. He’s been in the game a long time and he knows the clock is ticking. He’s now been with us for basically half of his career. He’s had his ups and downs, but this is a fresh start for him. Win or lose, we know he’ll come to fight.”

When asked about how he was able to put together the Moy/Soukhamthath fight, Burchfield credited both the fighters’ eagerness to ascend to the top of the rankings and the work of his matchmaker Pat Sullivan.

“I give all the credit in the world to our matchmaker Patrick Sullivan. I’ve wanted to put this fight together for quite some time and he got it done. Pat has his finger on the pulse of MMA, not just in the northeast, but throughout the world. We’ve watched these two fighters grow through the years, some of it right before our very eyes at Twin River, and it’s only fitting that two of the top bantamweights in the region face one another because the only way they’re going to get to the top is to go through each other first.”

CES featherweight champion Rob Font is also returning to the cage on Friday,  less than two months after his last fight, which was a unanimous decision win over Matt DiMarcantonio at CES 20.  He takes on CES and Bellator veteran Ahsan Abdullah in a non-title fight.
