UFC president Dana White confirmed with FOX Sports plans to put Fabricio Werdum into the Octagon against either Josh Barnett or Travis Browne.
Barnett and Browne collide later this month at UFC 168, while Werdum has waited patiently for his shot at UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.
“I met with Werdum yesterday or the day before – he’s going to fight the winner of Travis Browne and Josh Barnett,” White said. “Waiting is ridiculous. I’m not interested in him waiting, he’s going to fight. It gets to the point where it’s been so long since he fought nobody gives a (expletive).”
Werdum last stepped inside the Octagon against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, earning a submission victory in June. That bout moved him into the role of No. 1 contender, but Junior dos Santos secured a rematch first with Velasquez.
Velasquez recently underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum and is expected to be sidelined for the first half of 2014.
