UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones might be a little jealous of Frankie Edgar in December.

The former UFC lightweight champion will compete inside Madison Square Garden at Grapple at the Garden on December 1 from New York City. Edgar will meet former Ultimate Fighter Phillipe Nover in the co-main event.

UFC officials continue to work on getting clearance to hold events in NYC and MSG. This marks the second event to be held, which will also include Team USA vs. Team Canada in women’s matches.

“After attending Grapple at the Garden as a fan last year, it is an honor for me to now be able to compete at MSG,” Edgar said. “Following a long absence, I am very excited by this unique opportunity to compete on a wrestling mat once again, and it will be even more special to match up against my friend, Phillipe Nover. I also look forward to the day when all mixed martial artists are permitted to compete in MMA inside The World’s Most Famous Arena.”

Team Renzo Gracie, represented by both Edgar and Nover, will take on Team Joe Warren in a series of matches. Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, Shawn Bunch, David Branch and others will be in action.

Edgar was a four-time qualifier at Clarion University while in college and is filming the next season of The Ultimate Fighter opposite BJ Penn. The two are scheduled to face each other for a third time in 2014 at featherweight.

Nover is the current Ring of Combat lightweight champion.

Several NCAA teams will dual each other, along with a match pitting four-time NCAA champion Kyle Dake against Bubba Jenkins, who has been competing for Bellator MMA.
