A previously rumored rumble between welterweights Rory MacDonald (15-1) and Robbie Lawler (21-9) is no longer probable but definite, as organization officials have confirmed the clash has been booked for November 16 at UFC 167. Both men are among a handful of 170-pound contenders looking for a crack at gold in 2014.

MacDonald picked up his fifth consecutive instance of in-ring success last month with a decision over Jake Ellenberger at UFC on FOX 8. Other career highlights on the 23-year old’s record include triumphs against B.J. Penn, Mike Pyle, and Nate Diaz.

A cement-fisted slugger, Lawler is 21-9 including an impressive 18 wins by way of knockout. He is 2-0 since returning to the UFC with finishes of Bobby Voelker and Josh Koscheck.

UFC 167 is headlined by MacDonald’s mentor and teammate, Georges St-Pierre, putting his welterweight belt on the line against bearded brawler Johny Hendricks.
