Wanderlei Silva has decided to move on from ever facing Chael Sonnen – or at least that’s what it sounds like.

Sonnen, who faces Mauricio “Shogun” Rua this evening at UFC Fight Night 26, doesn’t view the former UFC title contender as a threat; not even a Top-10 fighter, in fact.

“This is a joke – he’s a clown,” said Silva in an interview with MMAjunkie.com. “He’s a second-level fighter. He’s not Top 10 – he’s not a top fighter. He can’t say anything about that because he’s not in the position. His results don’t give him the right to talk like that.”

Silva (35-12-1) improved his overall UFC record to 5-7 with a victory over Brian Stann earlier this year. “The Axe Murderer” and Sonnen (27-13-1) have been going back and forth, with Sonnen stating he plans to move back to middleweight just to fight Silva and Vitor Belfort.

As a fellow Brazilian, Silva is of course backing his Rua vs. Sonnen – and would be willing to put a good chunk of change on him.

“‘Shogun’ can beat him anywhere. In the standup or on the ground – he can submit and he can knock out,” Silva said. “I don’t see any chance for Sonnen in that fight. I don’t gamble, but I talked to my wife. I want to put $100,000 on ‘Shogun.'”
