UFC welterweight Kelvin Gastelum (6-0) had a tough road to the Ultimate Fighter 17 title and it appears his journey to success in a post-show appearance will feature similar adversity. Previously paired against dangerous veteran Paulo Thiago, Gastelum is now without an opponent after news recently broke revealing Thiago had withdrawn from their August 28 tilt at UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann II.

Globo was first to report Thiago’s status, citing a knee injury as the culprit. The UFC is believed to be seeking a replacement in hopes of keeping Gastelum on the card.

The news is certainly disappointing for Thiago fans hoping to see the Brazilian put together back-to-back wins. He is 15-5 in his career with career highlights against Jacob Volkmann, Mike Swick, and Josh Koscheck.
