Canadians will have a chance to root for another one of their own at UFC 165 after the organization revealed lightweight John Makdessi had been matched with Renee Forte for the September 21 show. Both men are coming off solid showings are could end up challenge a ranked opponent down the road if victorious in Toronto.

The bout will unfold on the preliminary portion of the card.

Makdessi is riding the momentum of back-to-back wins, beating Sam Stout and Daron Cruickshank respectively. He holds an overall record of 11-2 with seven strike-based stoppages to his credit.

The 8-2 Forte stumbled in his UFC debut but came back nicely with a decision win over Terry Etim in February.
