It looks like UFC flyweight Joseph Benavidez won’t be waiting for the winner of next month’s title-fight between Demetrious Johnson-John Moraga after all, as the 28-year old has been linked to a September 4 scrap with Jussier Formiga at UFC on FS 3. Though the specifics are still sketchy, it is likely the card will take place in Brazil with either Belo Horizonte or Porto Alegre serving as the specific backdrop.

Globo was first to report the rumble. No official announcement has been made.

Benavidez is 2-0 since suffering a Split Decision to Johnson in the company’s first flyweight title-fight, beating Ian McCall and Darren Uyenoyama respectively. The Team Alpha Male product is 18-3 in his career and also owns past victories over Jeff Curran, Miguel Torres, and Eddie Wineland.

The 15-2 Formiga bounced back from a TKO loss to John Dodson in his debut by outpointing Chris Cariaso last month. Seven of his wins have come by way of submission.
