A pair of Strikeforce veterans has been scheduled for action on August 31, though against each other rather than in respective rumbles. Specifically, middleweights Derek Brunson and Yoel Romero will meet on the preliminary portion of UFC 164 where both will attempt to build off successful showings in their Octagon debuts.

UFC officials have confirmed the bout’s addition to the lineup. A match-up between Jared Hamman (13-5) and Magnus Cedenblad (10-4) was also announced for the Milwaukee-bound event.

The 10-2 Brunson outpointed Chris Leben last December in a surprising, though not necessarily entertaining result, and should be out to impress this time around. Seven of his wins have featured some sort of stoppage.

Romero is 5-1 with knockouts in all five of his wins. He was last seen blasting Clifford Starks in 92 seconds at UFC on FOX 7. Though Brunson’s wrestling is often seen as a strongpoint, Romero is an Olympic caliber grappler and has the hardware to prove it as a silver medalist.
