UFC middleweight Ronaldo Souza looked strong in his Octagon debut last weekend, choking Chris Camozzi out cold in the opening round of their UFC on FX 8 fight. However, the bout did little to show how he’d fare against ranked opposition, as Camozzi was a late replacement and is only solid, not necessarily spectacular, competitor.

Though nothing official has been booked, it looks like Souza should have a chance to erase some doubts about his ability to be a top contender in the UFC at some point soon thanks to a tilt against Yushin Okami. UFC President Dana White confirmed the clash during a UFC 160 press conference.

MMAJunkie was on hand and able to capture his comments. No date was mentioned for the pending pairing.

Souza is 18-3 with fourteen finishes by way of submission. Eight of his last nine efforts have produced a victory including those over Ed Herman, Robbie Lawler, and Tim Kennedy.

The 29-7 Okami has also looked good as of late, scoring three straight wins. Among the numerous notable opponents Okami has beaten in his career are the likes of Mark Munoz, Nate Marquardt, Alan Belcher, and Hector Lombard.
