As the saying goes, someone’s “0” will go on July 31 when Bellator welterweight champ Ben Askren puts his belt on the line against Russian finisher Andrey Korsehkov at Bellator 97. Askren has won all eleven of his fights since transitioning into MMA from an accomplished career on the mat, while Koreshkov is 13-0 and has looked impressive in all of his Bellator bouts.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back into that cage and putting on a show,” explained Askren in a press release confirming the fight. “I feel like I’ve continued to mature and get better in every one of my fights, and July 31st should be no different. I don’t think Andrey has any ability to stop my wrestling and ground attack, so this will be another successful title defense.”

Askren is coming off a drumming of Karl Amoussou and also holds past wins over Douglas Lima, Jay Hieron, and Lyman Good.

Meanwhile, Koreshkov beat Good, Jordan Smith, and Marius Zaromskis to earn his crack at Askren’s gold. Eleven of his wins have featured some form of finish.

Also announced for the card, tournament finalists Lima (24-5) and Ben Saunders (16-5-2) will battle it out for a title-shot, while featherweight Patricio Freire (17-2) will look to bounce back from a stumble against champ Pat Curran for a rumble with UFC veteran Rob Emerson (12-10). The show is scheduled to unfold at the Santa Ana Star Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
