It’s a weird time for MMA in New York. Up in Albany, the UFC is doing their best to paint the sport in a positive light, detractors are calling the sport barbaric, and the folks in the legislature are waffling between progress and ignorance. But regardless of where the state is – or isn’t – when it comes to sanctioned pro MMA, amateur MMA is flourishing. Take, for instance, the inaugural Victory Combat Sports event on Friday, May 17, which was held in the Hell’s Kitchen nightclub Terminal 5 in Manhattan, and which saw eight bouts of badass action play out in a cage. From a grappling stud named Marcus Surin dominating his opponent to a busted arm to a quick and violent girl fight, VCS had it all. Don’t believe me? See below.
