UFC heavyweight Daniel Cormier has his sights set on an eventual move down to 205 pounds, but, for now, he’s sticking with his current division and has plans to stay as active as possible. Cormier mentioned interest in an August outing a few weeks back and reiterated the position on Saturday night during Fuel TV’s coverage of UFC on FX 8. However, this time around he added a little more detail.

“I want to fight on the first card on FOX Sports 1 in Boston on August 17,” said Cormier, adding, “And I hope my man Chael Sonnen is fighting Wanderlei Silva next to me. Put us on the card, boss!”

Sonnen, who works alongside Cormier as part of the Fuel TV broadcast team, has been rumored for a rumble with Silva in the evening’s headlining slot.

Cormier didn’t mention any specific match-ups, though Roy Nelson is seen as a front-runner for the fight based on both men having expressed relative interest in the tilt. Regardless of who he faces, Cormier could end up with a title-shot if successful given his 12-0 career mark in addition to past wins over Antonio Silva, Josh Barnett, and Frank Mir.

UFC on FS 1 will help launch FOX’s new all-sports network. No main event has been connected to the card though bouts between Joe Lauzon-Michael Johnson and Thiago Alves-Matt Brown have been announced.
