On the first day of summer, Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) will be visiting Milwaukee for their eighth show at the Historic Eagles Club Grand Ballroom. The Brew City crowd will be on hand for their hometown fighter Sergio “The Phenom” Pettis as he takes on Jeff “Big Frog” Curran for an RFA inaugural Flyweight championship in the main event. The co-main event will see RFA featherweight champion Jared “Demon Eyes” Downing looking to defend his belt for the first time against four-time All-American wrestler turned undefeated MMA fighter Lance “The Party” Palmer.

Curran has fought for a number of large promotions including UFC, Strikeforce, PRIDE Fighting Championships, WEC, IFL, and King of the Cage. The 35 year old veteran has battled some of the sports best fighters including Urijah Faber and Matt Serra. He enters the bout with Pettis holding a record of 34 wins, 15 losses, and 1 draw. Team Curran fights out of Crystal Lake, Illinois. Expect the five foot six inch fighter to try and take the fight to the ground.

Pettis is the younger brother of UFC fighter Anthony “Showtime” Pettis. Sergio fights out of the world renowned gym, Roufusport. The 19 year old, Sergio Pettis has an impressive record of 7 wins and zero losses. “The Phenom” has the abilities to bring the fight anywhere as two wins come way of TKO, two by the way of submission and three fights went the distance. This is Pettis’ biggest fight to date and a win can launch him into the long awaited Ultimate Fighting Championship. Expect Pettis to keep the fight standing, but don’t be surprised at his strong grappling skills on the ground.

The co-main event is between Lance “The Party” Palmer (6-0) and featherweight champion Jared “Demon Eyes” Downing (9-1). Downing will be defending the belt for the first time against a four-time NCAA wrestling All-American out of Ohio State. Palmer’s strong wrestling could be a challenge for the champion. A win would improve the Team Alpha male fighter to 7-0 and earn him a contract with Bellator or the UFC.

Chinzo Machida (1-2, APAM/Machida) will take on Milwaukee local James Barber (2-0, Roufusport). Chinzo is the former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida’s little brother. Machida is coming off two losses and will be thirsty for a victory. Barber is on a two win streak via submissions, looking to keep his perfect record against by far his toughest opponent in Machida.

Mike “Biggie” Rhodes (4-1) seeks a win after suffering his first loss vs. Benjamin Smith (6-1) in a welterweight matchup. Smith is fighting out of Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, Nevada. Smith looks to continue the 3 fight win streak. Rhodes, native of Iowa, fights out of Roufusport in Milwaukee. The hometown crowd could be a strong advantage for the Roufusport Spartan. Expect a tough battle between the two fighters as it will most likely last the three round distance.

The undercard begins at 5 p.m. CST and the main event jumps off at 9 p.m. CST. There will be live coverage on AXS TV. RFA 8 has an exciting line up for the passionate Milwaukee MMA fans. They’re going down Friday, June 21, 2013 at The Rave/ Eagles Club off Hwy 18 in Milwaukee. Expect an action packed night with a strong loud supporting hometown crowd. Tickets can be purchased at www.cagetix.com.
