Massachusetts native Joe Lauzon lobbied for a fight on the UFC’s upcoming outing in Boston and, to the delight of thousands of fans in the region, has apparently had his wish granted. Of course, that doesn’t mean Lauzon will be getting a tomato can to crumple when the cage door closes just because he’ll be the hometown favorite.

According to a report from MMAWeekly, “J-Lau” has been booked for a match-up with Michael Johnson at UFC on FS 1. The August 17 event is helping launch FOX Sports 1 and is expected to be PPV quality when the lineup is completed.

Lauzon is 22-8 with finishes in all of his wins and a record-tying number of bonuses under his belt. The 28-year old is coming off a hard-fought loss to Jim Miller but had picked up victories in three of his four previous pairings including success against Jamie Varner and Melvin Guillard.

The 12-8 Johnson was one of the division’s hottest fighters in 2012 but has dropped two straight dating back to New Year’s Eve weekend. Eight of his total triumphs have featured some form of stoppage with the majority coming by way of TKO.
