UFC on FOX 7 PosterStrikeforce stars like Roger Bowling, Jordan Mein, Lorenz Larkin, Jorge Masvidal, Josh Thomson, Daniel Cormier, and Gilbert Melendez all took to take to the cage tonight in San Jose’s HP Pavilion – i.e. “The Shark Tank” – but not as members of the disbanded promotion’s roster. Rather, the lot locked horns against their respective adversaries inside the Octagon as members of the UFC competing at UFC on FOX 7.

The event was headlined by a bout between Melendez and lightweight champion Benson Henderson with Cormier taking on former heavyweight title-holder Frank Mir in the co-main.

Henderson and Melendez threw down for 25 minutes with neither necessarily injuring the other but the title-holder ultimately retaining his strap thanks to a hard-fought effort. Henderson picked up the nod by getting the better of “El Nino” in a handful exchanges. After the tilt, “Bendo” proposed to his girlfriend and exited the Octagon with both a belt and fiancee as a result of his time inside the infamous eight-sided cage.

Meanwhile, Mir and Cormier failed to live up to the pre-fight hype, spending the bulk of the bout clinched against the cage with neither man ever seeing any true adversity throughout the tilt. However, based on Cormier’s control he walked away with the decision victory and the respect of  slew of new fans.
