2013 has been a big year already for female fighters with the introduction of a women’s bantamweight division in the UFC on top of a pair of entertaining Invicta FC events, and it doesn’t look like things the momentum will be slowing down anytime soon. Earlier today, the full lineup for Invicta FC 6 was unveiled and, surprising few, the card is highlighted by a number of potential-laden pairings.
As previously announced, a featherweight title-fight between former Strikeforce champions Cristiane Santos and Marloes Coenen will serve as the evening’s main event, while Carla Esparza will put her strawweight belt on the line against unbeaten Japanese star Ayaka Hamasaki.
The 11-1 Santos picked up the ninth knockout of her career earlier this month against Fiona Muxlow at Invicta FC 5, marking the first fight for “Cyborg” since spending a year on the sidelines due to a failed drug test and some contractual issues. Comparably, Coenen is a submission specialist by trade who owns an overall record of 21-5 including 15 tap-outs.
Esparza (9-2) is on a four-fight winning streak including success against Bec Hyatt and Felice Herrig. In Hamsaki she will face a 9-0 competitor with five finishes to her credit.
Invicta FC 6 is set for July 13 in Kansas City at the Ameristar Casino Hotel. Also slated for action are the likes of Hyatt, Rose Namajunas, Julia Budd, and Jessica Penne.
