The opportunity to become the UFC’s first female Ultimate Fighter winner has proven to be an alluring prospect for some of the top women in Mixed Martial Arts as evident by the crowd turning up today in Las Vegas to audition for TUF 18. Though no spot on the show is guaranteed, an all-star cast may not be too far fetched given this morning’s developments.
According to a report on MixedMartialArts.com, approximately 50-60 women have shown up to try out including Roxanne Modafferi, Tara LaRosa, Jessamyn Duke, Tonya Evinger, Shayna Baszler, and Kim Couture. Many of the names listed have ties to Strikeforce or Invicta FC, while Couture is best known for her previous marriage to UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture.
Potential contestants will go through a three-stage process if hoping to make it on to the show – grappling, striking, and interviews – with cuts coming between each stage.
The upcoming season, set to premiere on September 4, will feature two teams made up of 135-pound men and women with each gender’s group competing for a TUF title. Squads will be coached by either champion Ronda Rousey or top contender Cat Zingano.
