Last night the MMA world learned bantamweight Cat Zingano would opposed UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey after the unbeaten finisher put Miesha Tate away with strikes in the third round of their rumble at the Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. Also revealed, the long-running reality show will leave FX and head to FOX Sports this fall.
Specifically, TUF 18 will debut on September 4 and air on Wednesdays. Filming will begin later this summer where teams made of 135-pound males and females will compete for the right to be named TUF champ in their respective divisions.
“Having the opportunity to help fighters kick off their careers – especially the women – is an amazing experience,” said Rousey in a statement to media. “I’ve had the chance to be a guest on past episodes, and I felt the passion, determination and commitment these fighters bring to the sport. I can’t wait to start coaching this next history-making season on this exciting new network.”
Shortly after the season concludes Rousey will put her gold on the line against Zingano. Both women are unbeaten and are known for scoring stoppages. Rousey is 7-0 with all of her wins coming by Armbar in the opening round of action, while Zingano has come out triumphant in all eight of her tilts with four TKOs and three submissions to her credit.
