Bellator LogoBellator closed out Season 8 last week with an exciting effort featuring a title-fight and two tournament finals. Though the organization won’t be back on the airwaves for a couple of months, Bellator already has a plan in place for this year’s Summer Series including a trio of tournaments with designs on crowning new contenders in the bantamweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight divisions.

Bellator officials confirmed the matter this week but did not provide specific dates or the participants. However, a slight change in format was revealed, as the brackets will only feature four participants rather than the standard eight.

“We are always striving to enhance every aspect of the Bellator formula for our fighters and fans. Our Champions consistently defending their titles against world class challengers who’ve earned their title shots creates a win/win for those two crucial groups,” explained CEO Bjorn Rebney, adding, “Three stacked 4-man tournaments over our Summer Series on Spike is another great step in our growth and evolution.”

The company will return to eight-man tournaments this fall when Season 9 begins.
