UFC President Dana White has been known to hyperbolize upon occasion but it’s hard to argue against the praise the outspoken executive heaped on featherweight Conor McGregor after the 24-year old dismantled Marcus Brimage in 67 seconds at UFC on Fuel 9. White addressed McGregor’s performance during the post fight press conference where he said the Irishman’s poise in particular caught his eye.
“I’m blown away. First of all, it’s his first fight ever in the UFC; he walked out tonight and got in the Octagon like it was his hundredth fight in the UFC. From the minute the bell started, he was nice and relaxed and moved around, and even after he gets the knockout, it’s like he’s been here before and done it 100 times,” said White. “Kid was totally relaxed, he’s a beast, (and) I’m impressed.”
White went on to confirm McGregor, who won Knockout of the Night for his finish of Brimage, would see action in August when the company heads to Boston for UFC on FS 1. No opponent was named for obvious reasons, though the large contingent of fans with Irish heritage in Bean Town is likely to root for “Notorious” no matter who he faces.
McGregor improved his record to 13-1 with the win over Brimage. Twelve of his victories have featured a strike-based stoppage.
