Alexander-Gustafsson - MMAWeeklyWith less than a week to go before UFC on Fuel 9 unfolds in Stockholm, the evening’s main event appears to be in jeopardy after news surfaced stating headliner Alexander Gustafsson had suffered a cut while training for his match-up with Gegard Mousasi and could be forced out of the fight as a result. Gustafsson hails from Sweden and is the nation’s biggest star.

SVT was first to report Gustafsson’s injury, saying the cut was above his eyebrow and sustained during one of the final sparring sessions leading up to Saturday night’s show. A follow-up piece from MMANYTT has also cited the head of the country’s regulatory board as saying Gustafsson is extremely unlikely to be approved for competition.

The UFC has yet to confirm Gustafsson’s condition or announce plans relating to a last second change.

The 15-1 Gustafsson is on a six-fight run including success against James Te Huna, Thiago Silva, and Mauricio Rua. He was expected to earn a title-shot if victorious against Mousasi.
