UFC featherweight Frankie Edgar wanted a fight with the potential to put him back in the discussion for a title-shot, calling out Cub Swanson in hopes of a crack at one of the division’s top contenders. However, rather than a rumble with Swanson, the former lightweight champion will instead see action against a man who lost to Swanson the last time he stepped into the Octagon – Charles Oliveira.
A bout between Edgar-Oliveira has been confirmed by UFC officials with the two tussling at UFC 162. The card is scheduled to unfold on July 6 in Las Vegas.
Edgar made his 145-pound debut last month in a losing effort against divisional king Jose Aldo. He holds an overall record of 15-4-1 with a number of impressive wins at lightweight including those over Gray Maynard, Sean Sherk, and B.J. Penn.
The 23-year old Oliveira hasn’t fought since his September stumble against Swanson. He is 16-3 in his career with fifteen finishes including submissions of Darren Elkins, Efrain Escudero, and Jonathan Brookins.
