UFC welterweight Nick Diaz has never been big on media functions but promised to be better about it after being pulled from a title-fight with Georges St-Pierre in 2011 as the result of missing two press conferences promoting the bout. Leading up to his match-up with St-Pierre this weekend at UFC 158, Diaz showed some improvement in making a press conference and participating in a conference call, but he couldn’t quite avoid controversy after allegedly avoiding a production crew attempting to tape a UFC Primetime feature.
Were that not enough, Diaz decided to pass on an open workout for media today in Montreal, leaving attendees to wonder where the former Strikeforce champion was. According to manager/coach Cesar Gracie via Twitter, Diaz needed to “rest up” after travelling from California to Canada and wanted to reschedule his appearance for a later time in order to “be his best” for Saturday night’s scrap.
Diaz is also required to be part of a presser on Thursday, though it seems unlikely he would risk the repercussions of missing it. However, considering his unpredictable behavior, the possibility of Diaz being pulled, sadly, is not as far fetched as it might have once seemed.
