Eduardo DantasThis Thursday may be Valentine’s Day but fans shouldn’t expect to see any love in the cage at Bellator 89 when headlining bantamweights Marcos Galvao and Eduardo Dantas face off despite the fact both have trained together for years at Nova Uniao. As it turns out, Galvao is actually upset Dantas was so open to accepting the fight and wants to teach the 24-year old a lesson by taking his divisional title at the event.

Galvao touched on his position in an interview with Fightline, labeling Dantas a “just another opponent.”

The 13-5 Galvao is not only eager to lock horns with Dantas to prove a point but because he feels his crack at a championship is long overdue. Galvao seemed to be on a similar course in 2011 before controversial decisions to Alexis Vila and Joe Warren sent him packing, plus his go at Dantas’ gold was put on hold in 2012 as a result of the young Brazilian suffering a knockout loss outside of the organization.

“It’s hard not to be motivated. A title-bout was supposed to happen last year but I was basically robbed of a couple of decisions. I was expected to fight for the belt before, when Zach Makovsky had the championship, so now I feel my career is starting new. This is the beginning of my career,” said the focused Galvao.

Fans can catch Galvao-Dantas duke it out on Spike TV when the main card broadcast fires up at 10:00 PM EST.
