A month ago UFC middleweights Michael Bisping (23-5) and Alan Belcher (18-7) were on the cusp of challenging for divisional gold. Today, they’re set to fight at UFC 159 in hopes of restarting the quest towards top contendership.
UFC officials confirmed Belcher-Bisping will battle it out in the April 27 event’s co-headliner. The card features light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defending his title against Chael Sonnen in the main event.
Bisping lost his opportunity to face Anderson Silva earlier this month after being blasted by Vitor Belfort with a head-kick. Prior to the defeat “The Count” had gone 5-1 with the only loss involving a questionable decision stumble to Sonnen.
Meanwhile, Belcher had a four-fight winning streak snapped in December, coming up short on the scorecards against Yushin Okami at UFC 155. Sixteen of Belcher’s instances of success have involved a stoppage including those against Patrick Cote, Jorge Santiago, and Rousimar Palhares.
