Light heavyweight Vinny Magalhaes has been calling for a clash with Phil Davis for the past few months, seeing some flaws in the rising contender’s game he feels he can exploit in hopes of upping his own divisional stock. Though Davis brushed him off in the beginning, it appears “Mr. Wonderful” has grown tired of the submission-specialist’s talk and agreed to action against him on April 27 at UFC 159.
The bout was confirmed on UFC Tonight.
The 10-5 Magalhaes is currently on a six-fight winning streak including a September tap-out of Igor Pokrajac in the Brazilian’s return to the Octagon after a short run between 2008-2009. A decorated BJJer, the 28-year old has finished all his opponents with eight stoppages coming by way of submission.
Davis is 10-1 in his career with some impressive victories to his credit such as those over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Alexander Gustafsson. His last bout involved an October outing where he choked out Wagner Prado at UFC 153.
