UFC middleweight Ed Herman stepped up on short notice to face Ronaldo Souza this past weekend at Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine after the Brazilian’s original opponent withdrew. While commendable, the decision to do so may have put Herman on the shelf for a significant period of time.

According to MMAWeekly, “Short Fuse” was among five names listed by the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission as a result of damage sustained at Saturday night’s show. Herman suffered a submission loss to Souza involving a Keylock apparently causing enough concern to receive an indefinite suspension while having a medical professional check out his hand, elbow, and shoulder.

Lightweight Kurt Holobaugh also received an indefinite suspension after apparently injuring his hand in a preliminary pairing with Pat Healy.

Also mentioned in the OSAC report were Mike Bravo (30 days for precautionary reasons), Anthony Smith (30 days for facial lacerations), and Dion Staring (30 days for precautionary reasons).
