After 18 months on the sidelines, Bellator light heavyweight champ Christian M’Pumbu finally has a date for his first title-defense. According to an official press release, M’Pumbu will put his gold up for grabs against heavy-handed slugger Attila Vegh on February 28 at Bellator 91.

M’Pumbu was last seen coming up short against Travis Wiuff in a non-title bout back in October 2011. Prior to the loss the 18-4-1 “Tonton” had won three fights in a row to become Bellator’s first 205-pound champion with strike-based stoppages in each victory.

Meanwhile, Vegh is currently on an eight-fight run including a 25-second knockout of Wiuff to earn his shot at M’Pumbu’s strap.

“I’ve never worked harder for something in my life, and on February 28, I will hold that belt and become the new Bellator World Champion,” said the Slovakian in a prepared statement.

Vegh holds an career mark of 28-4-2 with 21 finishes including a near-even split between TKOs/submissions.
