Fans of stand-up are free to start salivating, as the UFC has announced a scrap between lightweight strikers John Makdessi and Daron Cruickshank. Though not necessarily “household names”, both men love to strike and pack enough power to render opponents into puddles of goo if on target.
The two are set to throw down on March 16 at UFC 158.
The 10-2 Makdessi, a TriStar product, is coming off a convincing win over Sam Stout to snap a two-fight skid. Seven of his victories have involved some form of strike-based stoppage including a beautiful spinning backfist finish of Kyle Watson at UFC 129.
Comparably, Cruickshank was last seen dropping Henry Martinez with a beautiful head kick at UFC on FOX 5. The showing improved his overall record to 12-2 and was his sixth straight instance of success.
