Velasquez v Dos SantosOne person with a vested interest in last night’s heavyweight title-tilt between Cain Velasquez/Junior dos Santos at UFC 155 was Alistair Overeem, the man most see as being next in line for a crack at the championship. Overeem was originally supposed to face Dos Santos for the belt in May but was forced to withdraw after an elevated T:E ratio brought on by testosterone use was discovered. He and “Cigano” have been jawing back and forth ever since, seemingly setting up a showdown for the strap with both personal and professional issues at play.

However, as Overeem predicted, Dos Santos failed in his bid to beat Velasquez in their rematch. Needless to say, “The Demolition Man” was watching the bout and happy with what he saw.

“JDS looks pretty,” Overeem joked on Twitter in relation to the former champ’s mangled face. “Great fight though. Aaaand, its all over… Great fight, great performance by Cain. Nice!”

With his drug-related matter behind him, Overeem will return to the Octagon on February 2 at UFC 156 where he’s slated to face Antonio Silva. If victorious the hard-hitting Dutchman will be named the division’s clear cut #1 contender.
