Featherweight grapplers Dennis Bermudez and Matt Grice are set to scrap on February 23 at UFC 157 in a bout leaving one man a step closer to the division’s upper-tier and the other hoping for another preliminary card appearance. Both are coming off impressive wins yet haven’t captured the necessarily momentum to start staking a claim at contendership, a matter each hopes to change in a few months when they mix it up in the Octagon.
UFC officials confirmed the bout’s addition to the event. Other notable match-ups on the show’s lineup include Josh Koscheck-Robbie Lawler, Dan Henderson-Lyoto Machida, and Ronda Rousey-Liz Carmouche.
Bermudez is 2-0 since losing in one of the Ultimate Fighter 14 tournament finals. The 9-3 “Menace” was last seen submitting Tommy Hayden at UFC 150 in August with an outpointing of Pablo Garza in his prior pairing.
Meanwhile, Grice is 15-4 with ten stoppages to his credit and victories in five of his last six scraps. However, he hasn’t seen action since last June when he scored a Unanimous Decision over Leonard Garcia.
