Phil Davis pulled from UFC 155 lineup

Phil DavisA recent injury to UFC light heavyweight Forrest Griffin has not only resulted in his removal from a scheduled scrap at UFC 155 but, apparently, caused opponent Phil Davis’ withdrawal as well. The two talented 205ers were set to serve as the December 29 event’s co-headlining clash before Griffin went down with a torn MCL and strained ACL.

While it was initially thought the UFC would find a replacement for Griffin, organization head Dana White has confirmed Davis would be shifted to a different show based on the amount of time involved and a lack of a suitable substitute.

White’s comments came to media during a pre-event press conference for UFC on FOX 5 and MMAWeekly was on hand to document them.

The 10-1 Davis is coming off a submission win in October over Brazilian Wagner Prado. He has also exited the Octagon with his hand raised against the likes of Brian Stann, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, and Alexander Gustafsson.

Sucks for Davis, it seems the hits keep coming with Zuffa MMA

  • AlphaOmega says:

From DW’s twitter: The UFC curse strikes again. Tim Means slips in sauna and KO’s himself so now Marcus LeVesseur vs Abel Trujillo

    Now that’s kinda funny.

  • Screenplaya says:

I say, give Phil Davis a crack at Shogun when he is ready. Davis has been instrumental in the right-sizing of bloated 205ers. Brian Stann and Tim Boetsch each fought Davis at 205, were physically dominated, and immediately cut down to 185. I think it would be best for the sport to let him scrape Shogun around the cage for 15 minutes so he finally realizes he has to move down.
