Former Strikeforce champion Muhammed Lawal looks to finally have a date lined up for his Bellator debut assuming all goes according to plan. Lawal has been sidelined since January with a drug-related suspension and series of health-related woes including an extremely serious staph infection.

However, in a little more than a month the light heavyweight’s period of inactivity should finally come to an end, as “King Mo” has been linked to a Bellator event planned for January 17 in Irvine, California. It is believed his bout will be part of the company’s Season 8 light heavyweight tournament.

MMAFighting was first to report Lawal’s involvement with the card, citing sources close to the show.

Lawal is 8-1 in his MMA career since transitioning to the sport after a decorated run as an amateur wrestler. Six of his wins have involved some form of stoppage.
