UFC light heavyweight Fabio Maldonado suffered his third consecutive loss inside the Octagon last month. That being said, it doesn’t appear as though the 32-year old Brazilian needs to worry about being released despite the series of stumbles, as he recently received a good indicator that his job is secure in the form of a significant bonus check relating to the rumble.

According to a Facebook post from Maldonado, the money was not only unexpected but more than he would have earned if he’d come out of his UFC 153 bout with his hand raised. No specific figure was mentioned, though it was likely to be more than $20,000 based on Maldonado’s previous paydays.

The 18-6 Maldonado’s proverbial leash was lengthened by agreeing to take on rising star Glover Teixeira at the event without a full camp to prepare after original opponent Quinton Jackson withdrew due to injury. While he ultimately came up short in a fairly one-sided affair, Maldonado displayed incredible heart throughout the match-up and even rocked Teixeira early on.
