UFC star Diego Sanchez has been out of action since February, dealing with some injury issues, but he hasn’t been sitting around twiddling his thumbs. Rather, Sanchez has been busy slimming back down for a future bout at 155 pounds and appears to already have an opponent lined up for his return to the division.

According to Sanchez by way of Twitter, he has agreed to face Takanori Gomi in Japan at UFC on Fuel 8 and is waiting to see if “The Fireball Kid” will also accept the UFC’s offer. The March 3 clash would kick off Sanchez’s second run at lightweight where he challenged for the title a few years ago.

No other match-ups have been linked to the card.

The 23-5 Sanchez has earned a reputation for himself as one of the organization’s most exciting competitors, putting a premium on entertaining fans even if it occasionally costs him a win. Among the numerous notable adversaries he’s beaten in the past are the likes of Martin Kampmann and Nick Diaz.

Gomi holds an overall record of 34-8 including thirteen knockouts. He was last seen outpointing Mac Danzig at UFC on Fuel 6, his second straight win inside the Octagon.
