The combination of bantamweight Ronda Rousey’s skill-set, outspokenness, and good looks have made her into one of MMA’s most popular competitors, landing her in the coveted position of becoming the UFC’s first female champion. Though not officially announced yet, Rousey has reportedly signed with the world’s foremost MMA organization and will make her debut in 2013.

While the response has been largely positive to the possibility, some folks simply don’t like the idea of women fighting and are opposed to the notion a billion dollar company backing the concept. However, Chael Sonnen is not among them, as the polarizing grappler recently spoke up about Rousey’s pending status and had nothing but complimentary things to say.

“I’d like to congratulate Ronda Rousey on becoming a pioneer in this sport,” said Sonnen in a comment to TMZ, adding, “It’s well-deserved and overdue.”

Sonnen also took the opportunity to let some of his trademark trash-talk fly, taking a shot at fellow UFC light heavyweight Quinton Jackson.

“Looks like Mitt Romney has a new favorite fighter and ‘Rampage’ Jackson has another opponent he can’t beat,” joked Sonnen.
