It appears UFC heavyweight Dave Herman has been given a reprieve of sorts in light of failing a drug test relating to an October outing against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 153. Specifically, Herman was found to have marijuana in his system and admitted his guilt in a closed-doors conversation with UFC officials.

While it seemed as though Herman would likely be released for the infraction, as the bout also resulted in his third straight loss, “Pee Wee” will instead be suspended for six months and has agreed to enroll in a rehabilitation program as a condition of the agreement.

Both matters have been confirmed by MMAJunkie.

The situation marked the second time marijuana was found in Herman’s system, though this time around the UFC oversaw the punishment based on the event taking place in Brazil where no regulatory board is in place. After Herman completes his suspension and rehab he will still, of course, have to pass a drug test before he’ll be signed to fight again.

Herman entered the UFC as one of the hottest prospects at heavyweight when he signed in 2011, compiling a 20-2 record with 19 stoppages and one of the losses coming from a disqualification. However, he has gone 1-3 since and has been finished in all three of his defeats.
