The stream of scraps set for the UFC’s yet-to-be-announced return to Brazil on January 19 has been a steady one this week. The latest match-up to be linked to the lineup involves heavyweights Gabriel Gonzaga and Ben Rothwell, giving each an opportunity to build off an opening round finish in his previous Octagon appearance.

News of the bout was first reported by MMAWeekly. Other fights rumored to be taking place at the event include Nik Lentz-Diego Nunes and Michael Bisping-Vitor Belfort.

Gonzaga will have been out of action for more than a year when he locks horns with Rothwell, submitting Ednaldo Oliveira in front of his countrymen at UFC 142 and being sidelined with injuries ever since. He holds an overall record of 13-6 with stoppages in all of his wins.

“Big Ben” is also a finisher by trade, racking up 29 TKOs/submissions in 32 total victories. His last instance of strike-based success came in April when he starched Brendan Schaub seventy seconds into their tilt.
