It looks like UFC heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos is on the cusp of achieving a level of success few of his peers in MMA have, as the 28-year old’s name was recently linked in a connection with a sponsorship deal from Nike now that his deal with Pretorian has expired. If inked, Dos Santos will join fellow title-holders Anderson Silva and Jon Jones as fighters to rock the athletic gear giant’s infamous Swoosh logo.

Five Knuckles was first to reveal the pending agreement. Interestingly enough, Dos Santos has been seen wearing Nike gear lately including during a recent interview with the UFC Tonight (where the yet-to-be-announced relationship was also reported).

It is unknown if Dos Santos would serve as a regional face in Brazil, as Silva previous did, or receive the same global push his promotional peers have.

Dos Santos’ status as the UFC’s premier heavyweight has been well-earned, winning nine straight scraps inside the Octagon including success against the likes of Stefan Struve, Fabricio Werdum, Roy Nelson, Shane Carwin, Cain Velasquez, and most recently Frank Mir. He is currently scheduled to face Velasquez in a rematch on December 29 at UFC 155 where, if things go according to plan, he will don Nike merchandise from head to toe en route to the ring.
