For a time it appeared Luiz Cane might be the future of the light heavyweight division, showing a great deal of potential in consecutive wins over Jason Lambert, Steve Cantwell, and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. However, Cane suffered back-to-back knockout losses in his following fights and hasn’t been the same since, dropping two of his last three tilts as well including an outpointing by Chris Camozzi earlier this month at UFC 153.

Were the sting of defeat not bad enough, the stumble in front of his Brazilian countryman apparently cost Cane his job with the UFC, as his manager has been quoted on TATAME as saying the organization released him as a result.

The 31-year old Cane exits the UFC with an overall record of 12-5 featuring ten wins by way of a strike-based stoppage.
