It looks like UFC featherweight Chad Mendes can finally put a minor legal mess behind him after a battery charge in California was dropped on Monday. The 27-year old former contender was linked to a bar fight in July where he allegedly hit an unsuspecting patron before fleeing the scene.

According to a press release from Mendes’ management, the district attorney’s decision to throw the charge out was vindication for previous reports labeled as “false or incredibly sensationalized.” While he may have avoided punishment for battery, Mendes did pay an undisclosed fine after pleading No Contest to being involved in a public disturbance.

With the Team Alpha Male representative no longer concerned with potential jail time he can focus on preparing for a December 14 dance with Hacran Dias at UFC on FX 6. Mendes holds an overall record of 12-1 with wins over Erik Koch and Cub Swanson.
