Entering the current season of Bellator, many fans felt newly signed heavyweight Brett Rogers would likely emerge as the winner of the organization’s ongoing tournament to determine the next divisional champion. Rogers was one of the contest’s most seasoned competitors with time in Strikeforce and a past win over former UFC title-holder Andrei Arlovski.

However, when the cage door closed this past Friday night at Bellator 75, Rogers looked like anything BUT a favorite. Opponent Alexander Volkov picked him apart throughout the tilt and ultimately earned a Unanimous Decision victory.

It now appears there was a very good reason for Rogers’ minimal output. As shown in an x-ray from after the fight, “Da Grim” suffered a badly broken arm in the bout and was understandably limited in his attack as a result.

“I’ve never broken anything. It was a surreal moment for me. I was like f*ck — something ain’t right. I need to keep going with this and hope for the best,” said Rogers in an interview with MiddleEasy, explaining the damage occurred early in the fight. “Volkov definitely realized by the third round that something wasn’t right, so he was trying to test me out from top to bottom. By the time we found it, it was just a little too late.”

“I did my part as far as surviving and making to it to the decision,” Rogers continued, making it clear he was proud of his ability to endure, though he definitely wasn’t happy with how things unfolded inside the ring. “That still is not a fight that I ever want to fight. I never want to have that type of fight again. Ever.”

The loss dropped Rogers’ overall record to 12-5 and 1-1 under the Bellator banner.
