UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva was the first MMA fighter to sign an endorsement deal with Nike but the agreement was a regional deal with the company only including. Then, earlier this year, light heavyweight title-holder Jon Jones signed the first global deal with Nike. However, according to his Silva’s manager, “The Spider” has now joins the company’s worldwide ranks as well.

“It started off as Nike Brazil, but it has since been made a global deal. I don’t think there’s another mixed martial arts athlete on the planet that deserves that more than Anderson. He’s one of the best athletes out there that fits that mold, the face of Nike,” said Ed Soares in an interview with Bloody Elbow.

Silva’s popularity has grown even more since the UFC started doing shows in Brazil, even being honored on “Brazil Day” in front of a reported  one million of his countrymen.

“Look at all the people they’ve sponsored. People have compared Anderson as the Michael Jordan of MMA. The best of the best have always had some sort of affiliation with Nike, and I think the brand fits Anderson better than any other MMA athlete in the world,” continued Soares on his client’s success.

No doubt improving Silva’s stock, the pound-for-pound great will face Stephan Bonnar on short notice at UFC 153.
